Miami Fl  51
Florida  21½
These longtime rivals have gone in different directions. The teams have not met since New Year's Eve in 2004, when Miami won 27-10 in the Peach Bowl. UM has won its past six games against Florida, dating to 1986. Miami (1-0) flopped under first-year coach Randy Shannon last fall, going 5-7 SU, 4-8 ATS. They had a shot at a bowl, but lost their final 4 games. The offense was the biggest problem under first year offensive coordinator Patrick Nix, averaging 18 ppg in ACC play. 5 starters return on offense, but they have new a QB. Miami is off a 52-7 victory against Charleston Southern. Freshman Jacory Harris (16 of 26 for 190 yards) was one of 16 true freshmen to play Thursday, a clear signal that Shannon will rely on his newest recruiting class -- ranked No. 1 by ESPN.com -- to play a significant role this season. "Like I told you guys before, we were going to play young guys, and we're going to continue to play them next week," Shannon said. The Hurricanes will have a new QB for this game: Miami will start redshirt freshman quarterback Robert Marve, who was suspended, along with six others, for the opener. Miami is 16-7 under the total the last two years, and has gone 12-23 ATS the last three seasons. Florida (1-0) Head Coach Urban Meyer welcomes back 7 starters on offense and 8 on defense, including junior QB Tim Tebow. The triple-option attack was deadly in 2007, averaging 42 points, 201 yards rushing and 251 passing per game. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy last fall after throwing for 3,286 yards, 66.9% completions, 32 TDs and 6 INTs, and he rushed for 895 yards and 23 TDs! Meyer is 21-2 SU, 14-8 ATS at home in The Swamp. Florida has a young defense and problems at safety: Freshman T.J. Lawrence, who was originally moved from receiver to safety this summer, was moved back to receiver. Now it's redshirt sophomore Justin Williams making the move from receiver to safety. Meyer said he's still concerned with the position. But the young Miami kids are in for their first road game here – one in The Swamp!
Projected Score: Florida 35, Miami Fl 13

ARI Cardinals  2½
SF 49ers  421½
The Arizona Cardinals (8-8 SU, 10-6 ATS in 2007) played very well for coach Ken Whisenhunt last season, despite a ton of injuries. They will go with 37-year old QB Kurt Warner for this opener. Warner resurrected his career in 2007, passing for 27 touchdowns and leading the Cardinals offensive surge down the stretch. When Whisenhunt named Leinart the starter in January, he made a point of saying that Warner would have a chance to win the job. The competition was close, Whisenhunt said. Each started two preseason games. Leinart completed 28 of 45 passes (62.2 percent) for 354 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Warner completed 12 of 17 (70.6) for 142 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. The defense was average, ranked 17th overall, but 28th against the pass. That's why they drafted CB Dominick Rodgers-Cromartie (Tennessee State) with the 16th overall pick to shore up the pass defense. The 49ers have a very young passing offense under new OC Mike Martz and QB J.T. O'Sullivan. Neither was with the 49ers last season. Martz wants to make TE Vernon Davis the focal point of the offense, plus they add 35-year old WR Isaac Bruce. The Niners switched to a 3-4 defense and they were average against the run, allowing 121 yards per game for the second straight season. Looks like a defensive game, though note the "over" is 7-2 the last 9 meetings. San Fran is 4-11 SU, 5-10 ATS its last 15 as a dog.
Projected Score: ARI Cardinals 23, SF 49ers 17
