Temple

Ohio

Temple (3-5 SU, 4-3 ATS) has had two weeks to prepare and is riding a 3-game win streak! Amazing. Temple is playing well for Head coach Al Golden, and they are playing their 5th road game over the last 6 games. The offense is averaging just 20 ppg, but they just lost their starting QB. Junior Quarterback Adam DiMichele (12 TDs, 10 INTs) suffered a broken left leg in the second quarter of the Owls' 24-17 victory over visiting Miami of Ohio two weeks ago. DiMichele is expected to recover in time to play next season. DiMichele will be replaced by sophomore Vaughn Charlton, who paid immediate dividends against Miami when he connected with wide receiver Bruce Francis for a 61-yard touchdown pass that increased Temple's lead to 21-7 with eight minutes, 29 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The defense allows just 3.9 yards per rush in MAC play, and that will be a key against run-oriented Ohio. Former Nebraska coach Frank Solich has his (4-4 SU, 4-3 ATS) Ohio Bobcats running the football, averaging 130 yards rushing and 210 passing this season. In a 33-25 loss at home to Kent they changed QBs as Sophomore quarterback Theo Scott threw two fourth quarter touchdowns, replacing senior QB Brad Bower. Scott got the call last week in a 35-27 win at Bowling Green, but it was RB Kelvin McCrae that did the damage with 181 rushing yards. This defense has been weak, giving up 32 points and 225 yards rushing per game in MAC play. Look for a close one and whoever runs the ball better will win.
Projected Score: Ohio 21, Temple 17

Akron

Bowling Green

For a winning season, both these teams are close but need a few more wins. Akron (3-5 SU, 3-4 ATS) Head coach J.D. Brookhart's team has been difficult to figure. They had a stunning 39-38 win at Western Michigan (winning on a kickoff return on the final play), then followed that with a home loss to Temple. Brookhart has finally settled on sophomore QB Chris Jacquemain after using a two-platoon QB system for a while. He has an ace target in senior wide receiver Jabari Arthur. Akron had one of the wildest wins in football history: The Zips defeated Western Michigan 39-38 on a freakish kick return. Alphonso Owen bobbled the free kick, picked it up at the Zips' 11 and tried to make something happen. As he was being tackled, he lateraled the ball to Andre Jones, who raced across the field 78 yards for the winning touchdown as time expired. Jacquemain completed 23-of-41 passes for 389 yards and four TDs! They are off another bad game, though, losing 26-10 at Buffalo, allowing 155 rushing yards. Akron is 2-11 SU, 3-9 ATS its last 13 road games. Bowling Green (4-4 SU/3-4 ATS) has a powerful passing offense, averaging 28 points and over 300 yards in the air per game. Sophomore QB Tyler Sheehan has played well and the WR corps is strong with Freddie Barnes, Eric Ransom and Marques Parks. They played tough in a 28-17 loss at Michigan State as a +18 dog, with 295 passing yards. RB Eric Ransom (knee) is out indefinitely. Ransom has emerged as BG's top running back, though in the Falcons' high-octane passing game he is used primarily as a receiver and blocker. They are giving up 34 points per game, though, and off a 35-27 home loss to Ohio, giving up 245 rushing yards while turning it over 4 times. Bowling Green lost 35-28 at Akron last season.
Projected Score: Bowling Green 31, Akron 21
